Aging increases the risk of developing chronic diseases and their predicted global incidence.
There are currently more people living worldwide over the age of 65, than under the age of 5. By the end of the century over 65-year-olds will outnumber under 15-year-olds. Whilst these numbers to some extent should be celebrated as an achievement of civilisation as they demonstrate the improvements that have been made in the healthcare sector, at the same time, as we age we are at increased risk of developing different chronic diseases, which means the predicted incidences globally of these diseases will also increase.
