Many different signalling pathways within a cell have been linked with aging. But one pathway that appears conserved across many model organisms is the insulin/insulin-like growth factor signalling pathway, otherwise known as the IGF-1 pathway. Primarily this pathway is involved in response to nutrients and growth factors. In this video, we will examine the signalling pathway further, see how it is activated and what processes it regulates. We will then look at the evidence in the literature showing how IGF-1 signalling is implicated in aging and longevity as well as see outcomes of human patients who have genetic diseases in this pathway. Then lastly, we will discuss ways in which the IGF-1 pathway can be intervened.
